How do I redeem an Xbox gift card?

Go to xbox.com/redeem, sign in to the Microsoft account that should get the money, enter all 25 characters of the code and select Next.

Microsoft's terms say a card only goes on an account registered in the country whose currency it carries, and the balance never converts (checked September 25, 2026). An Xbox console, the Xbox app on Windows and the Xbox mobile app redeem codes too. Pick the account with care: the code cannot move later.

Where can I redeem an Xbox gift card?

On four surfaces, per Xbox Support (checked September 25, 2026). Enter the code, select Next and follow the prompts.

• Web: redeem.microsoft.com or xbox.com/redeem.
• Xbox console: press the Xbox button, select Store, press the View button, then select Redeem.
• Windows: in the Xbox app, select your gamerpic, then Settings, then Redeem under Redeem a code.
• Xbox mobile app: select your profile picture, the gear icon, then Redeem code.

What do Xbox's error messages mean?

Most come from a typo, a currency or country mismatch, or the state of your account, per Xbox Support.

• Typo. Xbox codes never use A, E, I, O, U, L, S, 0, 1 or 5, so read again if you see one.
• "This code doesn't match your location" (XBOS3004): the card's currency is not your account's. A Canadian dollar card cannot go on a US account.
• "Not redeemable in your country/region": some codes, such as Game Pass cards, work only in their country of purchase. Turn off any VPN.
• XBOS3008: a suspended subscription or a balance due blocks codes.

How do I check my Microsoft account balance?

Sign in at account.microsoft.com/billing/payments (checked September 25, 2026); on a console, open Profile & system, Settings, Account, then Payment & billing. Microsoft caps what you redeem or spend per day, and what you hold, at USD 1,000 or the local equivalent.

Can I change my Microsoft account country?

What if my Xbox code still doesn't work?
