How do I redeem a Steam gift card or wallet code?

Sign in to Steam, open Redeem a Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code, enter the code and click Continue: the money lands in your Steam Wallet.

Buy the code in your Steam Wallet's currency. Steam's redeem page says codes convert to your wallet currency, yet its own error text warns that a code in a currency other than your region's may not redeem (checked September 25, 2026). In the Steam desktop app, the Games menu has Redeem a Steam Wallet Code.

How do I redeem a Steam Wallet code in a browser?

On Steam's redeem page, signed in to the account you play on. Per Steam Support (checked September 25, 2026):

1. Sign in to your Steam account in a browser.
2. Open store.steampowered.com/account/redeemwalletcode.
3. Paste the code into the Steam Wallet Code field and click Continue.
4. First wallet code on this account? Enter your current address: Steam sets your wallet currency from it.
5. Check the balance in the upper right corner, next to your profile name.

Why does Steam refuse my code?

Steam's messages point to a typo, a currency mismatch or a code already used.

• Typo. Steam lists characters that look alike: try Q, O or D for 0, I for 1, 8 for B and 6 for G.
• Currency. For a code whose currency differs from your region's, Steam warns "you may not be able to redeem this gift card to your account". Our product page says so too: "Your Steam Wallet must use the same currency as this card."
• Already used. If Steam says the code is on your account, check your balance. Steam Support cannot issue a new code.

Does my Steam store country matter?

Yes: it sets your wallet currency, and a wallet code cannot change it. Steam takes it from where you made your first purchase, and travel does not change it. You can move it only if you live in the new country, by paying with a local payment method, once every 3 months. What if my Steam code still doesn't work?

Send us a screenshot of Steam's message within 30 days. Refunds within 30 days if a code fails at first redemption, arrives incomplete or never arrives, or our page showed the wrong region.
