In the US, Canada and Mexico, Nintendo eShop takes cards, PayPal and eShop cards, not cryptocurrency. In the Americas an eShop card works only in its own country; in Europe it works in any country that shares its currency (both checked September 25, 2026). Does Nintendo accept crypto?

No. In the US, Canada and Mexico you add eShop funds with a credit card, PayPal or a prepaid Nintendo eShop Card, and Nintendo lists no cryptocurrency option (checked September 25, 2026). The eShop card you buy here with crypto is that prepaid card.

Which country's card should I buy?

In the Americas, the card for your Nintendo Account's country; in Europe, a card in your account's currency (checked September 25, 2026). Nintendo's support site for the Americas says eShop cards are specific to a particular country, and Nintendo cannot exchange a card for another country's. Nintendo's UK site gives the European rule: a card bought in France can be redeemed in the Netherlands or Germany, because all three use the euro. How do I pay?

How do I redeem my Nintendo eShop code?

Online at ec.nintendo.com/redeem or in the eShop on your console, per Nintendo's support pages (checked September 25, 2026).

Open Nintendo eShop at least once on a Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch with your Nintendo Account.
Go to ec.nintendo.com/redeem and sign in with your Nintendo Account.
Enter the code, 16 characters long, and select Next.
Enter your password again and select Redeem. Nintendo sends a confirmation email.

On the console instead, open Nintendo eShop, choose Enter Code or Redeem Code, type the code, then select Confirm and Add.

Is there a limit on my eShop balance?

Yes, in the Americas. Your total eShop balance cannot go above US$800, CA$1,100 or MX$5,000, so spend some before adding more (checked September 25, 2026). Pick an amount that fits under that cap.

When do I get my code?

Your code appears on screen as soon as the payment confirms on the network. We also email you a link to it. How long the confirmation takes depends on the coin. The email link opens on any device, so you can read the code on your phone while you type it on the Switch. How and when you get your code has the rest.

What if my Nintendo code doesn't work?

Check the region first: a card for another country in the Americas, or another currency in Europe, will not apply. In the Americas, also check that the balance cap is not reached.
