Starbucks' US card terms say a card purchased in the United States may also be used in Canada, and list England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Mexico and Australia as well (checked September 25, 2026). The same terms note that some airport, grocery and bookstore locations, and stores in Guam, do not take the card. For a card from another country, read the terms of the Starbucks market that issued it. If a card is refused, go through the checks for a code that doesn't work.

How do I add a Starbucks gift card to my account?
For a US card, register it at starbucks.com/gift. Per Starbucks' card terms (checked September 25, 2026):
- Sign in to your Starbucks account on starbucks.com or in the app, or create one.
- Go to starbucks.com/gift and select Add.
- Complete the form with the card details to register the card to your account.
- At participating stores, pay by scanning the card in the app or presenting it.

Why register a Starbucks card?
Because a registered card that is lost or stolen can be replaced with its remaining balance, per Starbucks' US card terms (checked September 25, 2026). The same terms say there are no activation, service, dormancy or inactivity fees and the value never expires. One card holds up to USD 500, and the value cannot be refunded or exchanged for cash unless the law requires it.
When do I get my Starbucks code?
Your code appears on screen as soon as the payment confirms on the network. We also email you a link to it. How long the confirmation takes depends on the coin.
